A NOTE FROM PAM
Hello and Welcome to True North Yoga and Recovery. This sacred golden nugget is our domain for wellness, balanced health, and friendship. I opened True North with the intention to spread love and create community in a culture that seems to continue to create disconnection and dis-ease in our communities, families and selves. I also intended to bring a practice that is committed to improving physical health by increasing muscle strength, balance, flexibility and strengthening bone density through the practice of Baptiste yoga. As a seasoned licensed psychotherapist trained in trauma and substance use disorders, I am also committed to helping you develop a greater sense of self by deepening your insight into the world around you. While I am passionate about the physical practice of yoga, I encourage self-acceptance, compassion, and self-awareness by providing a safe place for inquiry and spiritual growth on the sacred space of the yoga mat. My compassion for others and commitment to change the world one human at a time is led by my own daily practice and discipline to fully embracing and living in my True North.
I can’t wait to meet you.
Love, Pam

Taylor Cheek

I felt drawn to Baptiste yoga right after taking my first class. Between the powerful asana practice, the heat, and the total mental focus, I fell in love with the practice. Every time I step onto my mat is a new opportunity to get curious, get playful, and get messy— by doing this, I can push myself to my edge and create even more room for self discovery.
I wanted to share this powerful practice with others, so I completed my 200 hour training at True North Yoga of Avon in May of 2016. I have been teaching ever since, with a great sense of humor. Yoga has taught me that you have to be able to laugh at yourself, so I do my best to create a space where my students can get messy, get serious, and smile all at the same time.
I studied Horticulture at the University of Connecticut and am constantly thinking of ways I can contribute to a more sustainable agricultural system. When I’m not on my mat, I am probably hiking, gardening, cooking, or playing with my dog, Bear.

Jim Juliano

Someone suggested I try yoga and I thought, “Why not”? And so the journey began. Now, every time I’m on my mat it’s a new opportunity. It’s a form of self-love, not just for my body, but for my spirit too. It’s a path to my inner peace, that place where I feel connected and balanced. It brings me joy. Yoga presents a journey without an end, both on and off of the mat. Yoga asks me, “What will you work on next and how will you get there”? And then it takes me gently by the hand and leads the way. When I’m not on my mat, you can find me walking the dog, listening to music, reading poetry or practicing law. I have a BA from Villanova University and a law degree from UCONN. I completed my 200-hour training at The Yoga Shop in South Windsor. I have also completed a chair yoga certification and Y12SR leadership training.

Heather Grace

Heather is both a recovery coach and yoga teacher who has dedicated her life to serving the underserved. She
taught English and public speaking in a priority district for nearly twenty years and now serves the recovery
community in a threefold capacity -- as a yoga teacher, a recovery coach, and a wellness advocate. Heather
teaches Recovery Yoga and Gentle Yoga, and also has training in other yoga disciplines, including yin.
Heather spent many years as a high school teacher, but knew she needed a change. Teaching yoga seemed a
natural progression as she had been practicing yoga since the early 2000’s and credits yoga as a cornerstone of her
recovery. She was deeply inspired and intrigued by the yoga philosophy and lifestyle. She completed yoga teacher
training with Yandara Yoga and studied in both Bali and Kauai.
And In addition to her practice, Heather enjoys spending time in nature, whether it’s in asanas or hiking, and
kayaking. My practice gives me a much needed sense of balance in my life. I want to show up for my family, my
friends, my students and my son in my greatest capacity and in a way that honors presence and mindfulness.

Deidra Baum

I was introduced to power yoga years ago while I was in rehabilitation for alcohol addiction. Yoga is my strength. Not only has the rigorous practice made my body strong, but has had made me mentally strong as well. The lessons I have learned while on my mat have been instrumental in my daily life. Besides the strength, this practice has taught me about conscious living, gratitude and self love. It has introduced me to a “family” of loving, accepting and like minded individuals that all came because they craved a change in their lives. I was so grateful for finding yoga that I became a teacher under Pam’s guidance. I want to share what I have found with anyone that needs or wants this experience. There is no greater pleasure than watching new yogis transform! It may be the most challenging work out you’ve ever done.....but it is definitely worth it.

 Megan Schuft

Yoga has been a part of my life for over 15 years, and my practice has helped me through life changes, a move across the country, and a divorce. I truly believe that the gift of yoga is in the self acceptance, love and peace that you cultivate on the mat and that spills out into the rest of your life. Yoga inspires me to live each moment more mindfully, to be true to who I am and to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.

I completed my 200 hour teacher training at The Yoga Shop in 2018. I love to teach a dynamic and athletic style of flow that has an arc which goes from warming up your body, challenging you physically, and morphs into longer holds and poses centered around deepening your connection with your body and looking inward to find that connection. I incorporate my love for music into my classes, creating playlists that guide the feeling of the class. My hope is that you step off the mat feeling like you got a good workout in, and also refreshed, nourished and balanced.

When I’m not teaching or practicing yoga, I can be found outside, hiking, camping, traveling and exploring with my family and my dog, Ruby.

Thomas

My yoga journey began with just a couple days a week and it eventually became a daily practice for me. I found that practicing the physical aspects of yoga was more beneficial than just working out at the gym or running road races. I gained more strength, flexibility, and there were mental benefits that came along with it. I soon began to explore the principles and various aspects of the practice, which moved me beyond the physical realm of yoga. When I step on my mat and start moving with breath, it helps to bring me back to center. That place of calm, peace, balance, and strength. I believe this practice can do the same for others, and my goal is to share it. That’s why I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with the Yoga Shop in 2019. See you on your mat.

What Our Members Have To Say!

Michelle Rotondo

I started practicing yoga for my mental health a few months ago and will say that Pam and the True North Yoga community have truly been transformative in my life, not only mentally, but physically as well. The instructors are fantastic, and the studio offers a variety of classes for all experience levels. The power yoga classes are a great workout to get your heart pumping, strengthen your body, improve your flexibility, and connect with your inner zen. I am so glad I found this studio and incredibly grateful for the connections I’ve made with the other students. I highly recommend True North Power Yoga for any stage you may be in your yoga journey…the benefits are endless!

Samantha Vaal

My husband and I moved to Connecticut ten months ago from Indiana and one of my top priorities after finding a new job in physical therapy was finding a new yoga studio. I was happy to see that near our new home there was a Power Yoga studio. I tried one class and knew that True North was going to be a great fit for me! I could not be more grateful to have found this studio during my first big move across country, inevitably helping me grow in ways that I could have never imagined. True North has become my new safe haven for transformation of the body, mind and spirit. Thank God for my new family at True North Power Yoga!

Aubrey Exarhos

I started my journey at True North a little more than a year and a half ago and simply don't have the words to explain how good this little gold space has been for my heart. In looking for a way to help with my life-long battle with anxiety and overwhelm, I stumbled upon True North, and found so much more. Everyone who practices at True North, though we all enter the door having come from many different walks of life, we're all similar in that we have a love for this place that leaves us feeling like something is missing when we're unable to attend a class. We are community of strength and power, compassion and love, and ultimately are a group of people who just want to be better for ourselves, our families, our friends, and for each other. I can't imagine my days not beginning with a sweaty and powerful 6am boot camp yoga class with Pam! I'm grateful for all that Pam and the other amazing TN teachers have taught me over the past year and a half - lessons I'll take with me both on and off the mat every day!!

Sara

True North is more than a yoga studio. It is a home where you can get a great workout, be surrounded by fabulous people, and if it’s therapy you need, well, you can get that too. The 6am Power Vinyasa Flow class is not for the faint of heart. It’s early, it’s hot, and it’s tough. But it’s worth getting up at the crack of dawn because you will feel your best all day. Pamela’s lessons are also something you will carry with you throughout the day: what’s your truth, gratitude is the greatest healer, it’s only a sensation. As for logistics, there’s easy parking, mats, blocks, blankets, great play lists, etc. Highly recommend!
